Hi! I’m Laura and I’m a thirty something single mum to my awesome, crazy, lovely 5 year old son Luka. I’m also a lover of adventure, exploring and travelling and I’ve discovered the two don’t have to be mutually exclusive.
I’m not a planner, I’m more of a fly by the seat of my pants kind of a girl, so the one conscious decision that I made when I had Luka was that my life wouldn’t, as much as practically possible, change. And apart from the obvious it hasn’t, now I just have a totally brilliant little travel buddy and constant companion to enjoy things with and who opens my eyes to new experiences.
Now I’m no millionaire and so for us it’s not far flung trips to Maui and staying on white sand beaches (one day hopefully, one day!) and devastatingly I don’t get paid to travel or even have a job that allows me to work remotely so there’s no trekking through the Peruvian Amazon for months on end. I’m just an average single Mum living in the UK, who works full time and loves an adventure, and to me adventures can be found anywhere. It can be a day out somewhere local to a random road trip where you drive until you see somewhere fun and have no idea which city never mind hotel you will be staying in that night (see said I wasn’t much of a planner!).
I’ve had many friends and acquaintances admire mine and Luka’s trips, but say that as a single parent they are too nervous to travel alone, and had married friends who say they couldn’t manage to holiday with their children without their partner. But I’m hoping to prove through our adventures that you totally can. If I can do it, anyone can!
I’ll be sharing our experiences, recommendations of things to do, places to go and where to stay, (whether you’re a solo traveller, a single parent, a couple, or a family) and be giving you a few tips for how to grab a bargain or travel as a single parent along the way.
